Introducing Achievements: Gamify Your CTF Experience

Achievements are live. We've added a system that tracks your progress across CTF competitions-so you're not only competing on the day, you're building a record over time.

Why We Built This

CTFs are competitive, but the leaderboard resets every event. Achievements give you personal goals that stick around. They also make it obvious where you're strong: web, reverse engineering, crypto, whatever. Nice to have something that reflects your own trajectory, not just your rank in one competition.

What's In There

We've got 60+ achievements in a few groups:

  • Milestones – overall challenge completion (how many you've solved, that kind of thing)
  • First strikes – you solved a challenge before anyone else
  • Category achievements – you've specialised in web, or reversing, or crypto, forensics, binary exploitation, and so on
  • Challenge type – different formats (text, file upload, etc.)

Everything updates automatically as you solve challenges. Some achievements are hidden, so you'll run into them as you go. No need to chase a list-just play and see what pops.

How It Works

Achievements are organised into tiers. You complete the lower tiers to unlock the higher ones. Each one shows your progress and gives you points when you finish it. Your profile shows what you've unlocked so far. Simple as that.

What's Next

We're planning to add more: more categories, event-specific achievements, team achievements, and custom achievements for organisers who want to define their own. If you've got ideas for what would make achievements more useful or more fun, let us know. The system is live now for everyone on Biterra-have a look and see what you can unlock.
