Why a challenge is locked

Locked or missing challenges are usually caused by visibility, progression, timing, team state, or event state. Start with the team that reported the issue, because many rules are team-specific.

Fast checks

Check:

  • Hidden state: the challenge may be hidden from the player map.
  • Prerequisites: the team may need to solve another challenge first.
  • Choice group: the team may already have chosen another challenge in the same group.
  • Timebomb: the challenge may not have appeared yet, or may have expired.
  • Event period: challenge play may not be live yet.
  • Country or marker: the player may be looking in the wrong place on the map.
  • Team mismatch: the player may be on a different team than expected.

Hidden challenges

Use Hidden when you want to prepare a challenge without showing it to players. If a challenge should be playable, confirm it is not hidden and that it has the expected category, country/location, and release rules.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites require a team to complete one or more earlier challenges first. If one team can see a challenge and another cannot, compare their completed prerequisites.

Open the Progression Editor to review the unlock path visually.

Choice groups

Choice groups let a team complete only one challenge from a set. After the team completes one option, the other options become unavailable for that team.

Use choice groups for intentional branches, not for challenges every team must eventually solve.

Timebombs

Timebombs appear only during a configured time window. Check:

  • Start time.
  • Duration/end time.
  • Event period.
  • Prerequisites that might delay access until after the window closes.

If a timebomb is part of core progression, test carefully so it does not create an accidental dead end.

Launchable challenges

If a launchable challenge looks locked, first check normal visibility rules: hidden state, prerequisites, choice groups, and timebombs. If the challenge opens but the target will not start, use Launchable challenge operations.

Test like a player

Admin views can make configuration look fine even when the player flow is blocked. Use a normal player account on the affected team and walk through the map from that team's perspective.
