Event access code vs team invite code
Biterra uses two different kinds of codes during private or team-based events. They are easy to mix up, but they do different jobs.
| Code | What it does | Who usually shares it | Where players enter it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Event access code | Unlocks registration for an invite-only event. | Organiser | Event access field during registration |
| Team invite code | Adds a player to one specific team. | Organiser or teammate | Team registration modal after choosing Join an existing team |
Event access code
An event access code proves the player is allowed to register for an invite-only event. It does not choose a team.
Use an event access code when:
- The event is Invite Only.
- The organiser is using a shared join code.
- Players need a code before they can complete registration.
If the event is public/open, players may not need an event access code.
Team invite code
A team invite code puts a player into a specific team. It does not unlock invite-only registration by itself.
Use a team invite code when:
- The event uses teams.
- The player needs to join an existing team.
- The organiser has pre-created teams.
- A teammate created a team and shared the code.
If a player creates a new team instead, Biterra generates a team invite code they can share with teammates.
When players need both
In an invite-only team event, a player may need both:
- The event access code to register for the private event.
- The team invite code to join the correct team.
Keep them labelled separately in emails, slides, LMS pages, Discord messages, and QR-code instructions.
Common mistakes
- Putting the team invite code into the event access field.
- Putting the event access code into the team invite field.
- Sharing one team invite code with the whole class when teams were meant to be separate.
- Expecting an event access code to create or choose a team.
- Expecting a team invite code to grant organisation membership.
