How scoring works

In team-based events, the team has one shared score. Solves, penalties, hint costs, bonuses, and manual score entries affect the team total.

What adds points

Points can be added by:

  • Correct flag submissions.
  • Correct multiple choice answers.
  • Conquest scoring when a team controls the target.
  • First-strike or first-solve bonuses, if configured.
  • Manual score entries added by organisers.
  • Approved reviewed submissions, depending on the challenge flow.

What removes points

Points can be removed by:

  • Wrong-answer penalties, if configured.
  • Hint costs, if a team buys a hint.
  • Manual negative score adjustments.
  • Removing or denying score entries.

Static vs dynamic points

Point schemeBehaviour
StaticEach challenge keeps its configured point value.
DynamicChallenge value can decrease as more teams solve it, so earlier solves can be worth more.

The organiser chooses the point scheme in world Settings.

First-strike bonus

The first-strike bonus adds extra points when a team is first to solve a challenge. If the bonus value is 0, the bonus is disabled.

Hints and penalties

Hints can cost points when revealed. The cost applies to the team, not only the player who clicked the hint.

Wrong answers can deduct points if the organiser configured a penalty. For learning-first events, organisers may choose no penalty to avoid discouraging experimentation.

Scoreboard visibility

The organiser controls whether players can see the scoreboard.

If Anonymous scoreboard is enabled, players see generated anonymous team names. Admins can still see real team names.

Score logs

Use Logs in the world control panel as the audit trail for score changes. Logs can show solves, penalties, hint costs, bonuses, pending entries, approved entries, denied entries, manual adjustments, and removals.

For score disputes, check:

  1. The team name.
  2. The challenge name.
  3. Whether the event uses static or dynamic points.
  4. Whether hint costs or wrong-answer penalties were applied.
  5. Whether a first-strike bonus was awarded.
  6. Whether a manual score entry was added, approved, denied, or removed.
