Teams and invite codes

In team-based worlds, participants register as part of a team. As the organiser, you can pre-create teams, set an invite code for each team, copy those codes, and choose whether a team is marked as online or in person.

Where: Worlds, click View details on the world, then open the Teams tab.

Use the Teams tab to

  • View teams for the selected world.
  • Create teams before participants register.
  • Set a team name, color, and invite code when creating a team.
  • Copy team invite codes to share with participants.
  • Search teams by name or invite code.
  • Change a team's participation mode between Online and In Person.
  • Remove teams when needed.

You do not invite a person by email from the Teams tab. Email invites are managed on the Users tab; team invite codes are for joining a specific team during registration.

Creating a team

  1. On the Teams tab, click Create Team (plus icon).
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Team Name - Shown on the scoreboard and in the event. Required.
    • Team Color - Used in the UI (e.g. #FF5733 or lightblue). Required.
    • Invite Code - The code participants enter to join this team (e.g. team123). Required; choose something you can share (often case-sensitive).
  3. Click Create.

The new team appears in the table. The Invite Code is shown in a copyable chip - copy and share it with the people who should join that team. Only someone with this code can join this team when they register.

Teams table

The table lists every team in this world:

ColumnWhat it shows
NameTeam name.
Invite CodeThe code to join; use the chip to copy.
MembersNumber of participants on the team.
ParticipationWhether the team is marked as Online or In Person. You can change this from the table.
CreatedWhen the team was created.

You can search teams by name or invite code using the search box above the table.

Editing and removing teams

  • Participation mode - Use the dropdown in the team row to switch between Online and In Person.
  • Remove - Use the trash/delete action on the row to remove a team. Existing members of that team may need to re-register or join another team; remove only if you are sure or have told them.

There is no separate edit action in the current team table for name, color, or invite code. If you need to change those, create the corrected team or contact Biterra support.

What participants do

When registration is open, participants either:

  • Create a new team - They enter a team name; the platform generates an invite code they can share, or
  • Join an existing team - They enter the invite code you (or a teammate) gave them.

See Finding and joining events and Joining or creating a team for the participant flow.

Team invite code vs event access code

  • A team invite code chooses the team a participant joins.
  • An event access code lets a participant register for an invite-only event through the join page.
  • Participants may need both in an invite-only team event: event access to register, and team invite to join the correct team.
