Roles and permissions

Biterra has organisation-level roles and world-level roles. Organisation roles apply across the organisation. World roles apply to one world only.

Quick rule

Use an organisation role when someone needs repeated access across an organisation.

Use a world role when someone only needs access to one event.

Organisation roles

Administrator

Administrators have full organisation access. Use this role for trusted people who need to manage billing, members, roles, plans, and worlds.

Administrators can:

  • Invite organisation members.
  • Change organisation roles.
  • Remove organisation members.
  • View and manage billing and plans.
  • Create and manage worlds.
  • Enter world control panels.

World moderator

World moderators can help run worlds across the organisation without getting billing or member-management access.

World moderators can:

  • Create and manage worlds.
  • Enter world control panels.
  • Configure challenges, progression, announcements, and logs.

World moderators cannot manage organisation billing, organisation members, or organisation roles.

Member

Members belong to the organisation but do not have organiser permissions by default. Use this role for people who should participate in organisation events or access organisation-scoped features without managing the organisation.

Members cannot manage worlds, enter world control panels, change billing, or invite organisation collaborators.

World roles

World roles are managed from a single world's Users tab.

World admin

A world admin can help manage one assigned world. This is useful for event staff, teaching assistants, moderators, or temporary helpers.

A world admin can manage that world, but does not become an organisation administrator and does not get billing or organisation member-management access.

World participant

A world participant can register, join a team, access the map when available, solve challenges, and appear in event activity according to the event settings.

World participant access does not make someone an organisation member.

Common permission mistakes

  • Inviting someone to the organisation when they only need to help with one world.
  • Making someone an organisation administrator when world admin access would be enough.
  • Expecting a world admin to manage billing or organisation members.
  • Expecting organisation membership to put a player into a team.
  • Expecting a team invite code to grant organisation membership.
  • Expecting an event access code to choose a team.
