Joining or creating a team
Most Biterra events use teams. Your solves, penalties, hints, and bonuses count toward the team score, and the team appears on the scoreboard unless the organiser has enabled anonymous names.
Create a new team
- In the modal, choose Create a new team.
- Enter your team name.
- Optionally choose a team GIF/icon if the field is available.
- If the event asks for an event access code, enter it in the Event access field.
- Click Continue.
The platform creates the team, assigns it a color, and generates a team invite code. Share that code with teammates so they can join the same team when they register. Your team name appears on the map and scoreboard; all teammates share one score.
There is no Invite team members email field in the registration modal. To invite someone to your team, share the team invite code with them outside Biterra, then they register for the event and choose Join an existing team.
If the team name is already taken, Biterra shows a warning instead of silently failing. You can then:
- Click Join existing team if you meant to join the team that already uses that name.
- Click Rename if you want to clear the name and choose a different one.
Workshop worlds use the same duplicate-name recovery pattern in the workshop join prompt.
Join an existing team
- In the modal, choose Join an existing team.
- Enter the team invite code your organiser or teammate gave you in Enter team invite code. Use the exact code.
- If the event asks for an event access code, enter that in the separate Event access field.
- Click Continue.
You are added to that team. Your team name appears on the map and scoreboard; all teammates share one score.
Team limits and access codes
- The organiser can set a team size limit for the event. If the team is full, ask the organiser whether another team is available.
- A team invite code lets you join a specific team.
- An event access code unlocks registration for an invite-only event that uses a shared join code. It does not choose your team.
- If you need both codes, put the event access code in Event access and the team invite code in Enter team invite code.
- Creating a team does not email people for you. Teammates join by using the team invite code.
- If you register with the wrong team, ask the organiser before the event starts so they can advise on the best fix.
If a code is rejected or you cannot reach the event map, see Troubleshooting event access.
